Winter Farmers Markets 2013

The folks at Stanziato’s Wood Fired Pizza posted a fun, off-the-cuff video on Facebook the other day of the flourishing greenhouses at Holbrook Farm in Bethel, CT. Despite the snow and chilly temps outside, it was a warm, lush landscape of herbs and greens inside.

It just goes to prove that you can still find amazing local eats in winter. As I always say, do what you can when you can. It might be a bit of a challenge to eat local in winter, but it’s doable. Even if all you do is buy some local greens for a salad, it’s a start. It counts.

To help inspire you to go local this winter, here’s a list of winter farmer’s markets going on around the state. If I missed any, please let me know and I’ll happily add it to the list. In addition to farmers markets don’t forget that many farms, like Holbrook, with on-farm stands are open in winter too.

  1. Nice list! It's hard to remember cuz it's so darn cold, but supporting your local farmer and producers is important all year long. 🙂

  2. Exactly, they need support year round.

But I hear you, I am not a fan of the cold. Dragging myself out in winter is no easy task. 🙂
