Sugar + Olives in Norwalk is a restaurant that has frankly been on my “Must Try List” for years. I really have no excuse except that I’m not in Norwalk too frequently. Well, it looks like there are even more reasons to put it at the top of my list.

Sugar + Olives is more than a place to eat. It’s a place that is on a mission to educate diners and cultivate the relationship between families and farms.

The restaurant is devoted to serving local food and operating with a small footprint. Nearly all the menu items come from within Connecticut or close-by.  Not to mention that The Green Restaurant Association has awarded Sugar + Olives three stars for its sustainable practices.

Okay, so what’s the news that’s motivating me to finally eat here?

  • Chef/Owner Jennifer Balin has recently hired Jon Vaast as Co-Executive Chef. Jon began his culinary career as Garde Manger at Dressing Room Restaurant in Westport. He was trained by Michel Nischan and climbed the ranks to become Executive Chef in 2011.
  • The restaurant is expanding its retail space and operations, adding more local and organic products for CT residents to purchase directly at Sugar + Olives.
  • Cooking classes are now also available in the daytime, on Wednesdays.
  • Supper is now served on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Sounds great right? I’ve got check this place out! Have you been?
