Well, thanks to my Twitter friends I found a great video by Sprig that explains what those numbers mean on the stickers you find on produce at the grocery store. Those stickers are the PLU codes – price look up codes.
In sum, here’s what they can tell you:
Conventionally grown = four digit code
Organically grown = five digit code that always starts with the number nine.
Genetically modified = five digit code that always starts with the number eight.
