Give A Local Gift

Okay, the race is on to get my holiday gift shopping done by the end of the week. Mission impossible … no, thanks to online shopping. But I did come across some nice ideas that would incorporate my love of local food into this holiday season. Maybe you’ll find some inspiration too.

Make a gift basket with some local honey and/or maple syrup in it and make up a bag of homemade pancake mix with instructions.

Local wine makes a nice hostess gift. Over two dozen Connecticut vineyards and wineries are listed online.

The traditional Italian Christmas Eve is all about seafood. So why not find some local seafood. Check out the Seasonal Buying Guide for CT Fish and Shellfish compiled by UConn’s SeaGrant Program.

There are lots of small Connecticut specialty food companies. A personal favorite of mine is Bridgewater Chocolate! Another favorite in my household is extra virgin olive oil from The Olive Oil Company. (Their flavored olive oils and balsamic vinegar are great too.)

The Connecticut Department of Agriculture has a wealth of online resources.
