Okay, it may sound silly, but literally, I got giddy when I saw that the Monterey Bay Aquarium, in collaboration with Blue Ocean Institute and Environmental Defense Fund, is coming out with a Sustainable Sushi pocket guide on Oct. 22. The wallet-sized color-coded card will give consumers a guide to use at sushi restaurants, ranking each type of seafood on whether it’s sustainable.
I already carry a pocket guide of sustainable seafood for the Northeast and yes, often much to the dismay of those with me, I whip it out when shopping. Now, I can make informed choices when I crave sushi. It’s a beautiful thing! I encourage everyone to get the new sushi guide as well as the National and Regional guides for your area. Even better, get them directly on your cell phone.
